The Android’s Astrological Companion Review

Cody Vrosh' The Android's Astrological Companion

From the introduction alone, I knew I was ready for this book. Cody’s subtle sense of humor fused with some rather deep and insightful thoughts on humanity, technology and philosophy not only piqued my interest, but spoke to me in ways I wasn’t expecting. At that moment I was hooked.

CodyVrosh-Aries-Astrological-ArtworkEach story, from Sheatiel Sarao, Megan E. O’Keefe, Brendan Cahill, Kelly Thompson and Joseph Hewitt, are independently interesting, in or out of context of any other story, which is nice for casually reading. However, they all work together as a cohesive piece that fully explore the ideas that Cody lays out in the introduction. I couldn’t help but be fully immersed in each story and wanted to read the next story immediately after competing the last. I did jump forward to Aries (my sign), out of personal curiosity then went back to where I left off… but that’s a huge part of the charm of this book; each story, in a way, has a personal connection for the reader because all of us have our own signs!

A subtle and unmentioned quality of this book that I really enjoyed is that each story has to do with strong women. This book puts together an authentic set of stories which places these women in situations that reveal their strengths.

After reading this, I have a better understanding of the love for science fiction that many of my friends have. It’s more than just cool tech, androids and epic space battles; there is a deeper question of humanity amongst this backdrop that begs the questions of who we’d become if placed in this newly developed world. I’ve gotta say, I’m more of a fan of not only Science Fiction after reading this, but a few new writers that this book has introduced to me.

I’d highly recommend The Android’s Astrological Companion to anyone! Gorgeous art, compelling stories and a fantastically well put together book (I love the UV spotting on the cover, the quality of the binding is solid, and the book just looks great on my shelf). Couldn’t ask for more out of a book like this.

The Android’s Astrological Companion is available at the Binary Winter Press shop and Cody’s art shop.
